Sauve

It was in the reign of the Bermond family that Sauve became prosperous. The population then was 10 000. After a marriage with a daughter of Raimond, Count of Toulouse, the Bermond family was allied with the Crown of France and England...
At that time the House of Sauve controlled a region that stretched beyond Montpellier.
Built between Vidourle and the foothills of the Massif of Coutach, Sauve, capital of Salavès, is a town rich in history. Witness its Old Bridge (Pont Vieux) from the 11th century, the ruins of its ramparts, the fortified gates, the vaults and the high medieval towers... not to mention the House of Coins (l’Hôtel de la Monnaie): Sauve, around the 12th century, minted money.
Nor is the area surrounding Sauve without advantages and charms. The Sea of Boulders (La Mer des Rochers ) is a good example: a chaotic array of boulders in the garrigue, fashioned by the erosion that sculpted giant statues overlooking the roofs of the medieval town.
Lastly, you can hardly come to Sauve without being interested in the manufacture of forks out of hackberry wood which originated no later than the 11th century, but which may have been introduced during the Saracen invasions of the 7th and 8th centuries.
