Have you ever wondered where the Bridge of Avignon goes ?
... it goes to Villeneuve Lez Avignon, of course (on the other side of the Rhône) and whose rich patrimonial heritage earned it the status of Town of Art (Ville d'Art).
This is Avignon's twin sister, and the two towns have by turns been united and opposed. Avignon the Papal town, Villeneuve the Royal town, one in Provence, the other in the Languedoc.
And when Italian influence crossed the bridge, it was Villeneuve's turn to be decked with Florentine architecture: palaces, cardinal’s badges, churches etc.
