The Cévennes Hiking Festival
(Le Festival de la randonnée en Cévennes)
Every year, this Festival, organised during the Ascension weekend (spring FIRA) and during the All Saints’ holidays (autumn FIRA), allows hundreds of hikers to discover the most intimate parts of the Cévennes. You will be able to meet the locals: they will tell you about their trade, life in this occasionally rugged country, local history. The hikes are prepared and supervised by experts who know the local area and its history.
Along the trails, we will offer you: conviviality and exchange, by purposely restricting the number of participants; the meal break which is an opportunity to taste local products and traditional cuisine, whether in farms, inns, small restaurants or even in the heart of the countryside.
This year, there will be a specific focus on Cévennes writers and stories.
• From the 1st to the 4th of May, 2008: spring FIRA
• From October 31st to November 2nd, 2008: autumn FIRA

In 2008, the GARD celebrates three generations of GR trails
The latest addition, and first in line for celebration, the GR700 was given the go-ahead only a few months ago and follows the famous route of the Régordane Way (La Voie Régordane). Emblematic in many ways, the GR7 has travelled through time since it is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. Established from Mount Aigoual, it goes through the water shed between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic basin.
Another anniversary, the 130th, befalls the GR70, known as Stevenson Way (le Chemin de Stevenson), named after the Scottish writer-adventurer who travelled through the Cévennes with his donkey...
