Les Concluses de Lussan
Les Concluses de Lussan are described as a natural gem in the jewel box setting of the Gard scrubland.Les Concluses are canyons carved out by the Aiguillon river and the Merderis river. Overlooking the canyons are high cliffs. 6 kilometers of canyons are full of giant cauldrons, caves, arches, lookout points. Access on foot only. Les Concluses de Lussan are found 5 km north of Lussan on the road to Verfeuil. This is magnificent steep and lunar site, with long, wild canyons, rocky narrows dug by water’s action over time. L’Aiguillon is a small river which is dry in the summer but tempestuous after heavy rains, particularly in the fall. It is recommended not to walk in this area after heavy rains. The path brings to you a gate-like formation where you have an extraordinary view over rocky scarp, cauldrons dug into the river bed and a jumble of rock – this view drinks the size and splendor of the site. After there is a 30 minute walk along the canyon opposite cliffs full of holes and caves. The walk continues and comes to a narrow bridge which takes you across the narrow river bed and tranquilly down into the bottom of the beautiful canyon. A cathedral of rock, full of silence and beauty. The Pierre PlantéeOverlooking the site of Les Concluses, 3 km from the hamlet of Beth, the Pierre Plantée is a tall menhir (5.6 m) that speaks of the presence of prehistorical man. According to historians, the menhir is the sign of devotion to divine powers. Not very far from the hamlet of La Léque, there is also a dolmen that is worth seeing.
