Le Castellum

The Nîmes Castellum is one of the sole subsisting from Roman times. This was a basin for distributing the waters which arrived in Nîmes from the Fontaine d'Eure via an aqueduct whose magnificently masterful feat was the Pont du Gard!
The water was distributed to many different quarters in the Roman city of Nîmes, as attested to by ten circular openings in the basin.
