City-wide party weekend

Organized by Culturespaces in partnership with the City of Nîmes, the Grands Jeux Romains have become an unmissable festive and family event in Nîmes.

The event has established itself as the largest historical reconstruction of Antiquity in Europe.
After a postponement to 2020 following the health crisis, the new edition of the Great Roman Games will be devoted to the most emblematic character in the history of Rome: Julius Caesar.
On Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October, the heart of the City-amphitheater, squares, Jardins de la Fontaine ... - goes back 2000 years to live in Roman time.
HISTORICAL RECONSTITUTION IN THE ARENA OF NÎMES:
The historical reconstruction of the Great Roman Games refers to the proven passage of Emperor Hadrian in Nîmes in 122 AD. JC On this occasion, he offers sumptuous ludi (games) to the inhabitants:gladiatorial fights, chariot races and offers to reconstruct past events celebrating Rome's finest victories over her enemies.
In 2021, the public is invited to discover how, through his greatest battles, and supported by his faithful generals like Marc-Antoine, Julius Caesar fought his rival Pompey to conquer Rome. 'have solid scientific and historical foundations.
The re-enactors make their costumes with materials identical to those used in Antiquity and work hand in hand with historians.

Aimed at children who attend social centers and neighborhood associations, the “In the footsteps of the Romans” program of the Culturespaces Foundation offers an educational workshop allowing an immersion in Gallo-Roman society. Children are then invited to a performance in the Arena and have the opportunity to meet re-enactors.
