Cathédrale Saint-Théodorit et tour Fenestrelle
The Fenestrelle Tower, adjoining St Théodorit Cathedral, Uzès, is a round tower with windows.Lombard-style bell tower, it is remarkable for the harmony of its proportions and the finesse of its decor.There are no other round campanile towers in France. 42 meters high, divided into six floors, the tower was built at the beginning of the 12th century on a square base.Every aspect of the tower is a true architectural masterpiece that is sure to impress tourists and connoisseurs.The cathedral itself was rebuilt, after several destruction, in the 17th century and a neo-Romanesque facade was placed on it in 1873.Inside, a classical French organ, framed by painted 17th century shutters, is one of the most beautiful in the region.Many people come to this cathedral in Uzès to make a pilgrimage. The latter will see the necessary information on a descriptive panel at the entrance to the cathedral.Saint Theodorit or Theodoret is indeed a martyr, a priest of Antioch who knew the persecution of the time of the emperor Julien the apostate around the year 362.This martyr is now commemorated by Western churches on October 23, while Orthodox churches commemorate March 3.Visit outside the offices and guided tour on request at the Tourist Office.
