Also not to be missed in the Gard, discover the 3 villages ranked in France as “villages of character”…
Barjac, spread across the hilltop at 170m altitude between the Ardèche and the Cévennes… A beautiful town built of stone, with a 12th-century dungeon, the 17th-century château, a Renaissance entrance and many beautiful homes and buildings. Not far from Barjac lies Lussan, built atop a rocky outcrop, a beautiful medieval city surrounded by ramparts, overlooking the outlying garrigue. From the former watchman’s round, discover a magnificent panorama over the Cévennes mountains and Mont Ventoux.
Vézénobres is also a medieval city built at 219 metres altitude. It overlooks the confluent between the Gardon rivers in Alès and Anduze… Vézénobres was also a shelter on the Régordane Way, and served as one of the 24 strongholds which protected the Roman colony in Nîmes.
